How We Check Our Pages

Where our facts, prices, provider details and quotes come from, and how to tell us when we've got something wrong.

Last updated

Facts come from primary sources

  • Drug facts come from FDA prescribing information on DailyMed or Drugs@FDA, cited with the label's revision date.
  • Effectiveness and side-effect figures come from published trials, systematic reviews such as Cochrane's, and clinical guidelines.
  • Prices come from each program's own pricing pages and other prices captured on a stated day. The cost guide gives each capture date.

A figure found only on another website isn't used. Claims keep the source's hedges: if a trial was small or a result only “slightly” better, we say so. Low-dose naltrexone and Sinclair Method dosing are marked off-label wherever they appear. Figures a company publishes about its own customers are named as company figures, never presented as trial results.

References follow the AMA Manual of Style, numbered in order of first use, with access dates for web pages. Every source we cite is listed on the sources page.

Medical review

Guides are reviewed by licensed physicians. A reviewer reads the page against the FDA label and the studies it cites, then leaves notes on specific sentences, edits the text, or signs off. “Medically reviewed by” and the date appear on a page only after the reviewer approves that version. Reviewers are paid for their time and list their conflicts of interest on their profile.

Our reviewers: Pietra Stanicki, MD, MSc.

Provider details come from the provider's own pages

Facts in the provider directory, on provider profiles and in our reviews come from each provider's public site: pricing, FAQ, terms, insurance and location pages. Every detail is stored with its link and the date we read it. If a provider doesn't publish something, such as a cash price, the page says “Not posted” instead of estimating.

Trustpilot, Better Business Bureau and app store ratings are labelled with the platform, the review count and the date we captured them. Compounded products are labelled “compounded, not FDA-approved.”

Sunflower Clinic is listed first in the provider directory and marked Featured because it's run by the company that runs this site. Its details are collected and checked the same way as every other provider's.

How the other providers are ordered

Oar Health, Choose Your Horizon, Sunnyside and Reframe come next, in that order. We chose them as the programs to compare with Sunflower first.

Each of the rest gets one point for each of these: it posts its intake fee, it posts enough prices to work out the first 90 days, it has a companion app, and it offers peer support. Prices and services come from its own website; app ratings come from the Apple App Store. Providers with more points come first. Ties go to the lower first-90-days cost, then alphabetical order. Nobody pays to be listed or to move up.

Our survey

In October 2026 we asked people who use a sobriety app about their time on naltrexone. 154 people who said they had taken it answered. Every answer is a separate, real response to that survey; we left out one about a friend, one from someone who hadn't taken naltrexone, and one that was empty. Numbers come from the multiple-choice answers. Quotes come from the written answers of people who agreed to be quoted.

Quotes marked verified survey response are taken word for word from one of those answers. We don't see medical records, so what people say about their own treatment is their account, not something we have confirmed. Because everyone who answered uses a sobriety app, they may report better results than most people.

What people say is quoted word for word

Quotes from people who have taken naltrexone come from our survey and from stories sent to us with permission. We don't rewrite them or merge them, and we show good, mixed and bad experiences alike. Anything cut for length is marked “…”. Nobody is paid for a review or a story.

Posts from Reddit and other public forums are quoted briefly, word for word, with a link to the original post. We don't show usernames.

Study summaries

Each study page is written from the paper's abstract or full text, never from its title alone, and the results on it are the paper's own numbers. Negative and mixed results are reported the same way as positive ones. Each page says what we read and links to the paper.

Report a mistake

Email james@naltrexonereviews.com with the page address and what looks wrong. Providers can report out-of-date details the same way. We check each report against the source; if the page is wrong, we fix it and update its “last updated” date.
